Since 2016 we have been working to raise awareness of Nonconnah Creek and its cultural and natural resources.

Conservation

When the Conservancy was founded one of their main goals was to protect a property (Felt Property) for future generations to enjoy by having it established as a conservation easement. In working with TennGreen Land Conservancy the goal of protecting that property with a conservation easement became a reality in December of 2020. We hope to work for more areas being protected in the Nonconnah watershed in the years to come.

Education

Teaching people about the natural and cultural resources of Nonconnah Creek is important to us. We feel that if people have a chance to learn about the wildlife that lives along the creek, the fossils and rocks that can be found in the creek’s gravel bars, and the artifacts from different times in history people will be more inclined to want to preserve and restore this waterway for future generations to enjoy. We are always looking for opportunities to share what the creek has to offer with anyone who wants to hear it.

Recreation

As it stands today there are a number of ways that people can enjoy the creek. Hiking, birding, and biking are the main ways people currently make use of the spaces along the creek. There are also people who fish the creek and lakes adjacent to the creek. Unfortunately the access to the creek in tricky unless you know where to go and little to no improvements have been made allow for access to the creek and nearby natural areas. In the years to come though work days and collaboration with local government and land owners we hope to see improvement to access as well as a reduction in pollution along the creek.
