Nonconnah Creek at Halle Stadium

The area of the the creek at Halle Stadium is accessible from the city park and has a few nonpaved trails that run along both sides of the creek. There is nearly a mile of creek bed that is accessible when the creek is shallow. There have been a handful of stone artifacts found along the gravel bars at this location. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s this spot gained some notoriety as a local source of vivianite (a hydrated iron phosphate mineral). It is also a great spot to observe nature, there are a wide variety of native plants that can be found along the creek including a number of species that are uncommon in Shelby County. There have been a variety of fungi documented at this spot as well including an uncommon species of earthstar. Also more than 100 species of birds have been observed at this location including a couple rare flycatchers that made an appearance in the fall of 2025. Map coming soon
