Nonconnah Greenbelt Park
The Nonconnah Greenbelt Park is located on Forest Hill Irene Rd just north of TN-385. The park is maintained by Shelby County and was originally dedicated in late 2007. The developed portion of the park consists of a parking lot with a couple of lakes and a paved trail that is approximately 0.64 miles. It originally connected to Mike Rose Soccer Complex, but over the last several years the board walk that connects the trail to the soccer complex has fallen into disrepair. In addition to the paved trail there are several of miles of ATV and motorcycle trails to the east (Dan B Turley Natural area and points east) and west (to Hacks Cross and points west) that make access to this section of the creek much easier. There is an abundance of wildlife, plants, and fungi to explore at this location. There are also a few gravel bars along the creek to the west of the parking area that are fairly easy to access from the trail that runs parallel to the creek one is within 1000ft of the bridge just west of the parking area. The next on is about a 30 minute walk to the west along the creek.
During the summer months we typically do one or two twilight walks at this location as well as another field trip or two during the rest of the year.
